Left strafe key should only be pressed while moving the mouse left. Right strafe should only be pressed while moving the mouse right. The opposite will start moving you backwards. Help it's not working: Move through the video in order. Can you gain speed by moving in zig-zags? Can you jump in a circle, gaining speed slowly? Can you air-strafe to the bottom ledge? Help it's still not working: Never press the forward key. It's tempting to press the "+forward" (W) key when wanting to quickly move forward. If anything, you should only have to press it for a fraction of a second when you first start moving (for a circle jump). after that, do not press +forward. Why am I losing momentum? Could be that you're not using the mouse wheel to jump. Timing the jump with the space bar is impossible for basically everyone, especially beginners. Also note that 300 units is portals "speed limit" for allowing air strafes. If you exceed 300 units of velocity, you will lose the ability to air strafe. This makes it much harder to gain speed, and removes the ability to maneuver in the air. Use the technique in the video to maintain this +300 unit speed. Did they patch it out? No, and extremely unlikely to ever happen in the future. Do I need to crouch? No. Although it seems there is a technique for hitting a slightly higher speed by holding crouch on every other hop, but that's beyond the scope of this tutorial. ----- More info on opening a console: https://developer.valvesoftware.com/w... The structure of this video is such that people can understand WHY bunny hopping is a thing. With that intuition, they can practice their own method that follows some simple guidelines. The final bunny hop at the end is by no means something that you have to emulate perfectly. Feel free to play around and find your own style. DnB track is "Through the Mindless" by DigitalTwist. Blender is primarily used for 3D graphics manipulation, but also has various video editing tools. The in-game overlay was made entirely in the compositor, and the text is actually in 3D space but is composited over the initial 3D render of the keys and mouse. Both the mouse and keyboard is modeled by me. Don't judge the mouse model, it's retro not ugly. All of the animations are hand key-framed and animated, so they are close to frame accurate, but by a human (sorry). Animations may not be perfect for that reason, but they are good enough for learning purposes. Blender is also free and open-source, you can try your hand at it if you have a lot of time: http://www.blender.org/Portal 2 Bunny Hop Tutorial - YouTube | |
