MESA BOOGIE Single Rectifierの改造例を紹介します。 ■演奏、スイッチ等操作 0:00 (Diode), Clean 0:11 (Valve), Clean 0:27 Pushed 0:57 Drive, GAIN=PUSH 1:11 Drive, GAIN=PULL, Gt=Vol lowered 1:29 Drive, GAIN=PUSH, Gt=Vol lowered 1:38 Drive, GAIN=PULL ■改造内容 1.整流管5U4増設。STANDBYスイッチにて、Up=Diode、Mid=Standby、Down=Valve選択。 2.Clean。MESA色を取り除き、Deluxe Reverb AB763に極力近付ける。 3.(この改造のメイン)Pushed。オリジナルは全く良いと思えなかった。このためAB763をドライブしたような、レスポンスの良い心地良いドライブに纏めた。 4.Drive。GAIN=Push/Pullとし、Pull=Brightとなるよう改造。 ■解説 Single RectiとDual Rectiとで大きく違う、以下2点に関して解説します。 1.ダイオード/整流管選択 Singleの電源はダイオードのみ。Dualは、ダイオード/整流管選択。このため今改造では、整流管5U4用のヒータートランスを増設して、ダイオード/整流管を選択出来るようにしています。（※「他人に聞かなければ理解出来ないレベル」で、同様の改造を行うのは非常に危険です。） 2.CleanChの回路構成 SingleのCleanは、AB763のVibrato chを改造した回路です。一方、DualのCleanは、Drive回路のゲインを下げただけ...つまり全く違います。 次にSingale Recti におけるAB763改造の方向性は、Bright cap=120p、多くのポイントでハイ落ちにより、ミッドハイがやけに強調されて、ハイエンドまでヌケないCleanとなっています。このため今改造では、Bright cap=47p、またほとんどのハイ落ちを無効化して、Deluxe Reverb AB763 vibrato ch同等のサウンドとしています。 次に、この改造のメインであるPushedです。改造前は、Santanaよろしく、如何にもミッド満載のサウンドでした。が、Fenderも多数改造する身として、やはりAB763のドライブを表現せずには居れませんでした。オリジナルは、Treble capに2000p程度かさ上げする回路でしたが、ここを切り離す一方、Midに4.7kかさ上げするようにしています。またPost driveで、ミッド～ハイが程良く削れるよう、Volumeに68k+2200pを追加しています。これらはPushed時のみ効きます。 最後にDriveです。さすがに1時代を築いたアンプだけあって、完成度は高いです。ただ、ハイが引っ掛かりにくいため、ピッキングやギター側のボリューム操作への追従性に不満があります。このためPush/Pullボリュームに交換し、Pullで回路内のハイ落ちを無効化しています。よりスクリーミングトーンが出やすくなります。 所詮iPhoneのビデオですが、ヌケ、レスポンス等のイメージはご理解いただけることと思います。 Harmony Centralではもともと、Dual RectiよりSingle Rectiのほうが高評価です。この改造で、さらにこのアンプに納得出来る人が増えることと思います。 MESA BOOGISE Single Rectifier Mod 1.5U4 added. Standby SW to be Diode/Standby/Valve. 2.Clean ch circuit to be AB763 Deluxe Reverb Vibrato ch. 3.(Main item)Pushed was not good with original. Change to be driven AB763. 4.Drive. GAIN to be Push/Pull, Pull=Bright. 1.Single has only a diode rectifier. Dual has diode/valve. So I've installed 5U4, and 5V3A heater TX. 2.When it comes to clean ch. Single has a modified Fender AB763 circuit. But that of Dual is only a "GAIN reduced Drive" circuit. I love and have/mod many Fender amps, you know AB763 is always good. Then MESA modded AB763 circuit (in Single) was bright=120p, with many roll off caps. I don't like that "Mid-High" sound, without the glassy high-end. I've changed this to be AB763 Deluxe Reverb vibrato ch circuit, of course bright=47p. 3.Pushed. This is the main item. The original sounded like SANTANA...yeah please go for it if you like it...But I love AB763, and already modified Clean, I cannot help modifying this too. I've removed the "mid-boost" treble cap=2000p, and added 4.7k for Mid, then added best balanced post roll off=68k+2200p for Volume. They works only when Pushed. 4.Drive. Yes this is the "Recto" sound. Very good, don't buy these amps if you don't like it. But I felt it doesn't have an enough higher frequency that we need for the touch-responsable, or screaming sound. I've replaced the GAIN pot to Push/Pull, and Pull kills some roll off circuit. This is only an iPhone Video, but I hope you can notice what I mean.
